Dr. Dan Lovallo is an artist, academic and student of uncertainty. He holds a Ph.D. in Behavioral and Decision Sciences from the University of California at Berkeley and a Masters degree in Fine Arts from the Maryland Institute / College of Art. At The University of Sydney he is the Professor of Business Strategy and his research focuses on psychological responses to uncertainty by individuals and organisations. His art explores the impact of uncertainty via algorithms that mimic natural systems such as branching, mating, and competition for scarce resources. His current work intertwines the branching found in specific trees and river basins across the world. By integrating different branching processes into one observable occurrence the underlying process is intensified and the viewer is asked to consider the impact of branching in the environment.
